Found an injured native animal? Bring it to us. Wildlife is assessed and treated free of charge.
Caring for our native wildlife
As part of our commitment to the local community and environment, we accept injured and orphaned native wildlife for assessment and treatment. All wildlife care is provided pro bono.
If you find injured wildlife
- Keep yourself safe. Some animals may bite or scratch when frightened
- Gently place the animal in a covered box or towel lined container
- Keep it warm, dark and quiet, and do not offer food or water
- Bring it to the clinic during opening hours, or contact Wildlife Victoria on 13 000 WILDLIFE
What happens next
We record where the animal was found so it can be released back into its home area if possible. One of our vets examines the animal and provides treatment. If the animal can recover, it may be transferred to a licensed wildlife carer for rehabilitation. If its injuries mean it cannot survive in the wild, it will be humanely euthanased to prevent suffering.
It is illegal for members of the public to keep native wildlife without a licence.
