Signs your pet needs urgent care
If you are unsure, it is always safest to call. Seek help immediately if your pet:
- Has difficulty breathing, or pale, blue or grey gums
- Has collapsed, is unable to stand or is having a seizure
- Has eaten something toxic, such as rat bait, snail bait, chocolate, grapes, lilies (cats) or human medication
- Has been hit by a car or suffered a fall or attack
- Has heavy bleeding, or a wound that will not stop bleeding
- Has a swollen, hard belly and is retching without vomiting
- Is straining to urinate and producing little or no urine, especially male cats
- Has repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, or is vomiting blood
- Is struggling to give birth
- Has been bitten by a snake, or is suffering from heat stress
Before you leave home
Call ahead so the team can prepare for your arrival. Keep your pet as calm and still as possible, and bring any packaging if they have eaten something toxic.
