Why desex your pet?

Desexing is one of the most common procedures we perform, and one of the most important decisions you will make for your pet’s long-term health.

When is the right time?

Kittens can be desexed from around 12 to 16 weeks of age. For puppies, the ideal age depends on their breed and expected adult size. Large and giant breed dogs may benefit from waiting until they are more mature. Our vets will recommend the best timing for your pet.

Non-surgical options

For some male dogs, a hormone implant called Suprelorin can be used as a temporary, reversible alternative to surgical castration. Ask us whether it suits your dog.

Frequently asked questions

How long does recovery take?

Most pets are back to normal within a few days. Stitches are usually checked or removed after 10 to 14 days, and your pet should be kept quiet and wear a cone or recovery suit during this time.

Will desexing change my pet's personality?

Your pet will still be the same loving companion. Some pets become a little calmer, and many unwanted hormone driven behaviours are reduced.
