A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades with a quick injection. Unlike collars and tags, a microchip cannot fall off or be removed.

Lost and stray animals taken to councils, shelters and vet clinics are scanned for a microchip, so your pet can be quickly reunited with you.

The law in Victoria

All dogs and cats in Victoria must be microchipped before they are sold or given away, and before they are registered with your local council.

Keep your details up to date

A microchip only works if your contact details are current. If you move house or change your phone number, remember to update the microchip registry. Our team can help if you are not sure which registry your pet is listed with.
